Yellowknife home

Why I’m running

Yellowknife is home—in every sense of the word.

For 20 years, this community has shaped my family, my friendships, and my life. I have been surrounded by generous, resilient, and caring people through celebrations and challenges alike.

After two decades of building relationships, developing expertise, and serving Northerners, I’m ready to put that experience to work for Yellowknife. Our city is entering a period of change—and real opportunity.

Platform & priorities

Practical action for the city we call home.

We need to manage the pressures residents face today while positioning Yellowknife for the opportunities ahead.

01

Affordability

Grow the tax base, not just the tax bill.

Yellowknifers need responsible budgeting, understandable decisions, and growth that helps fund our services.

  • Set a clear ceiling for annual tax growth
  • Review the City’s $149-million budget carefully
  • Accelerate land release and reduce unnecessary red tape
  • Modernize City Hall and make budgets easier to understand
02

Safety & quality of life

A city people want to live in.

A safer, more welcoming Yellowknife depends on practical coordination and a downtown that works for everyone.

  • Coordinate the City, GNWT, and RCMP on community safety
  • Improve downtown infrastructure and public spaces
  • Align housing, shelter, outreach, and enforcement services
  • Protect recreation, parks, and accessible facilities
03

Partnership & growth

Build a stronger future together.

Our future rests on stronger relationships and making sure Yellowknife is ready for the North’s next opportunities.

  • Build lasting relationships with Indigenous governments
  • Position Yellowknife for territorial and federal investment
  • Support local and Indigenous business and entrepreneurship
  • Make City Hall more responsive to residents and businesses

Experience that delivers

Ready to turn investment into results.

Nazim has spent more than 20 years working in northern economic development across the Government of the Northwest Territories and the Government of Canada, helping deliver programs that support northern communities, Indigenous governments, and local businesses.

That work has built a practical understanding of how public dollars create opportunity—and how carefully those investments must be managed. Fiscal sustainability and affordability can go hand in hand with investing in residents, businesses, infrastructure, and Yellowknife’s future.

Public investment

Experience managing grants and contributions for northern communities.

Trusted partnerships

A record of negotiation, advocacy, and relationship-building.
